Simple Recipes Using Only Pantry Staples
Having a few pantry staples on hand can help you create quick and satisfying meals without a trip to the store. This simple recipe uses common ingredients you likely already have, and it’s easy to prepare with an air fryer for a delicious result.
Ingredients
- 1 cup dried pasta (any shape)
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 tsp garlic powder)
- 1 tsp dried Italian seasoning
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: grated Parmesan cheese or nutritional yeast
Steps
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chickpeas, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Stir well to mix.
- Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3 minutes.
- Place the tomato and chickpea mixture in an air fryer-safe dish or small baking pan that fits inside your air fryer basket.
- Air fry for 10 minutes, stirring halfway through to let the flavors blend and the liquid reduce slightly.
- Once done, mix the air-fried tomato and chickpea sauce with the cooked pasta.
- Serve warm, topped with grated Parmesan or nutritional yeast if desired.
Tips or Variations
- If you don’t have canned chickpeas, substitute with canned black beans or kidney beans.
- Adding a pinch of red pepper flakes can give the dish a mild heat.
- Try using different dried herbs like basil or oregano based on what you have available.
- For a crunchier texture, sprinkle breadcrumbs on top before air frying the sauce mixture.
- This recipe also works well on the stovetop—simply simmer the sauce in a pan instead of using the air fryer.
