Family-Friendly Casseroles Made Easy

Family-Friendly Casseroles Made Easy

Casseroles are a perfect choice for busy families looking for a hearty, satisfying meal without spending hours in the kitchen. They combine simple ingredients into one dish that’s easy to prepare and even easier to enjoy. This recipe is designed to be beginner-friendly and can be adapted for use in an air fryer, making weeknight dinners a breeze.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced
  • 1 cup cooked pasta (penne or elbow macaroni work well)
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1/2 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers for topping

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) or prepare your air fryer at 320°F (160°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cooked chicken, cooked pasta, frozen vegetables, cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly coated.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish or an air fryer-safe baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. If you like a crunchy topping, add breadcrumbs or crushed crackers on top of the cheese.
  5. Bake in the oven for about 25-30 minutes until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden. If using an air fryer, cook for 15-20 minutes, checking halfway to ensure it doesn’t burn.
  6. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This helps the casserole set and makes it easier to serve.

Tips or Variations

  • Try swapping chicken for cooked ground beef or turkey for a different flavor.
  • Use cream of chicken or cream of celery soup instead of mushroom for variety.
  • Add some chopped onions or bell peppers to the mix for extra crunch and taste.
  • For a vegetarian option, replace chicken with cooked beans or tofu and use vegetable soup.
  • If using an air fryer, make sure your dish fits comfortably inside and avoid overcrowding to ensure even cooking.
  • Leftovers reheat well in the microwave or air fryer, making easy lunches or dinners for the next day.
