Comforting Casseroles: Quick Recipes for Family Favorites

Casseroles are the perfect go-to for busy weeknights when you want something hearty, warm, and satisfying. These dishes combine simple ingredients into one-pan meals that everyone in the family will enjoy. Whether you’re using a traditional oven or an air fryer, casseroles offer versatility and comfort with minimal effort.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked chicken, shredded or diced
  • 2 cups cooked pasta (such as penne or macaroni)
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) or set your air fryer to 320°F (160°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cooked chicken, cooked pasta, frozen vegetables, cream of mushroom soup, milk, and half of the shredded cheese. Stir well to mix everything evenly.
  3. Season with salt and pepper according to your taste.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased casserole dish or a suitable air fryer-safe baking pan.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the melted butter.
  6. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the casserole, then add the remaining cheese evenly on top.
  7. If using an oven, bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
  8. If using an air fryer, place the casserole pan inside and cook for 20-25 minutes or until the top is crisp and browned.
  9. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

Tips or Variations

  • Swap chicken for cooked ground beef, turkey, or a vegetarian protein like beans or tofu.
  • Use different soups such as cream of chicken or cream of celery for varied flavors.
  • Add a handful of chopped fresh herbs like parsley or thyme for extra freshness.
  • For a crunchier topping, mix some grated Parmesan cheese with the breadcrumbs.
  • Try adding a layer of sliced mushrooms or sautéed onions to deepen the flavor.
  • If you don’t have an air fryer-safe pan, use small ramekins or foil pans that fit your air fryer basket.
